GeeTest: How It Blocks Web Scrapers

Last updated: October 26, 2026

GeeTest is a CAPTCHA provider best known for its slide puzzle: drag a piece until it fits the gap in an image. It is widely used in China and the rest of Asia and on crypto exchanges and gaming sites worldwide. Its newer Adaptive CAPTCHA picks the kind of challenge, or none at all, from how risky the visitor looks.

GeeTest is not in our benchmark yet. None of the targets we scrape every month shows it. So there is no success rate, speed or cost to rank here. When a target that GeeTest blocks joins the benchmark, this page will rank web scraping APIs against it the same way as our Cloudflare and AWS WAF CAPTCHA pages.

How GeeTest detects bots

How the piece is moved, not just where it lands. The slide puzzle records the path, speed and hesitation of the drag. A straight, perfectly timed move to the right spot fails even when the position is correct.

Several challenge types. Besides the slide, GeeTest can ask the visitor to click icons or words in order, or to match shapes, and it changes the challenge for visitors it trusts less.

A result checked on the server. A passed challenge produces values that the site's server verifies with GeeTest before it accepts the request.

Scraping APIs and GeeTest

GeeTest mostly guards logins, sign-ups and actions rather than pages to read. Where it is in front of a page, a real browser with a clean IP keeps more visitors on the easy path, and solving its puzzles is a separate job for CAPTCHA-solving services.

Frequently asked questions about GeeTest

Which web scraping API is best for GeeTest?

We don't know yet, because none of our benchmark targets shows GeeTest. We only publish rankings we have measured.

Why does the GeeTest slider fail even when the piece is in the right place?

Because GeeTest judges the drag itself: its path, speed and hesitation. A movement that is too straight or too regular is flagged as automated.
